Minister of Finance: No one can work may starve in Syria, and the basket of bread is 50 pounds

Minister of Finance Mamoun Hamdan stressed that the state is able to make pay increase, but there is social support provided to employees and non-employees. This support is enough to increase salaries up to 200% and not at least 100%

Hamdan said to “Al-Ayyam” newspaper: “We mean by social support; bread, electricity and oil derivatives only, it is allocated for them 4 billion every day, or 1400 billion annually, while salaries and wages on average, with the calculation of compensation, about 1000 billion

but if you want to increase salaries (You’re talking about 100% increase), the increase will be around $ 700 billion. You have social support of $ 1,400 billion. That means 200%.”

In response to a question about his statement in a parliamentary session that “no one is hungry in Syria”, although more than 82% of the population lives below the poverty line according to statistics of international organizations, “I do not trust the international organizations when talking about Syria

An international organization aimed to destabilizing Syria. We say that the state has been fighting for more than seven years. Naturally, this will affect the citizens and the way they live. How did the citizen live before the war? Actually, the Syrian family is known to be economic and organized, and the word hunger is different from one person to another, and the basket of bread is 50 SP. Now the media will publish it and say that the Finance minister wants the people to eat bread only”, Hamdan said

The minister said that the government continues supporting the citizens and the poor, throughout the subsidy of bread that has not been raised so far. And unfortunately, media does not show these positives with great regret. It is true that there is a difficult social life for some, but we as a government our task is not characterization, or ask countries to teach us about starvation or hunger. It is important to find solutions by creating jobs. In Syria, no one can work may starve, unless people do not want to work
