Father Demetrius, the patron of the church of the Syrian city of Al-Suqaylabiyah,announced that a 15-meter-long Christmas tree was erected on the border of Hama and Idlib governorates, which about half a kilometer away from the front line.
“A group of activists took a decision to support the church and organize New Year’s celebrations in this city,” Demetrius said to Sputnik. They erected a 15-meter-long Christmas tree by their hands, and hired no one for the job.
Demetrius added that the people’s committees in the area were divided into two groups when they put the tree, a group that was at the fighting positions watching the front and protecting it, and others decorating the Christmas tree.
The priest referred that the decision to erect the tree on the front line is a message to the world, saying that the residents of Al-Suqaylabiyah are alive and have no intentions in leaving their land, they want to live in peace and celebrate their holidays with a lot of joy and love.
It is noteworthy that Al-Suqaylabiyah city is about kilometer away from the positions of the gunmen.
