Five million Syrian pounds and imprisonment for two years .. a penalty for anyone who flees flour

An official source from the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection said in a statement to “Hashtag Syria” to amend the penalty of smuggling flour material allocated to public bakeries with a fine of five million Syrian pounds and two years’ imprisonment.


The source pointed out that the supply patrols seized a warehouse in the area of Safita containing 34 bags of flour supplied by the owner to refill the flour in different bags for different mills for sale, as the owner of the warehouse was arrested to complete the investigation.


According to the source, the ministry proposed to put an electronic barcode on the bags of flour to prevent smuggling, but the step did not make benefit by stopping the smuggling of flour.


Especially in the border areas with Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan, because of the high prices of flour in those countries, pointing out that Syrian flour is subsidized by the state and its price on the black market may reach to 350 pounds for one kilogram, where there is a request for the article from many bakery owners Restaurants, pastries and others.
