A huge explosion rocked the city of Daraa, southern Syria, this morning, Saturday, as a result of a car explosion at one of the city’s entrances.
Explosive device
The Syrian government agency “SANA” reported that an explosive device exploded today in a white Kia Rio civilian car at the Khirbet Ghazala roundabout at the northeastern entrance to the city of Daraa leading to the Damascus-Daraa international highway.
A source in the Daraa Fire Brigade said in a statement to SANA that the regiment’s vehicles rushed to the site of the explosion directly and put out the car’s burning flames.
No injuries
For his part, a source at Daraa National Hospital said that ambulances went directly to the place, indicating that there were no injuries due to the explosion and material damage.
For its part, local news accounts stated that “the explosion was caused by an explosive device that targeted a civilian Kia Rio car in the Al-Kashef neighborhood near the Khirbet Ghazala junction.
And that the damages were limited to material, with no casualties.
Consecutive explosions and targets
During the current month of July, several explosions occurred as a result of operations targeting Syrian army vehicles with improvised explosive devices in Daraa Governorate.
These explosions and assassinations are among a series of operations carried out by the remnants of armed groups that did not join the reconciliation conducted by the Syrian government in the southern governorate since its liberation in 2018.
The ongoing assassination operations are also escalating in Daraa, as they target party figures and dignitaries who stand by the state, and leaders and armed elements who did not participate in the settlement processes announced by the Syrian government.
