Jordan plans to invest in electricity storage projects using water pumping, to enter service before 2030, as part of efforts to save energy and support its continuity and reliability.
The Secretary-General of the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, stated that her country is currently working to maximize the use of renewable energy sources, according to the Jordan News Agency.
Al-Azzam indicated that this benefit will come through steps that enhance the exploitation of these sources, without conflicting with technical limitations, to produce more electricity from renewable sources of a volatile nature.
Al-Azzam stated that Jordan seeks to achieve stability and reliability, so the intention is to establish an electricity storage station using water pumping, to start work before 2030.
The plans included preparing a roadmap to support the networks with the means of storing electricity of all kinds, in conjunction with the continuing work of the electricity companies operating in the sector to support and develop the transmission and distribution networks.
Al-Azzam pointed out that there is seriousness in supporting the electrical interconnection networks with neighboring countries, and that work is underway to strengthen the interconnection project with Egypt and double the electric power exchange capabilities, and with Palestine through the establishment of a new connection point.
Al-Azzam indicated that work is continuing to implement the electrical linkage point with Iraq, in addition to taking the necessary measures to start implementing the electrical linkage project with Saudi Arabia.
The Jordanian official expressed her hope to complete these projects by the end of 2025, to raise the level of electricity exchange operations between the countries of the region, and to technically support the electricity networks.
