A group of Syrians launched a campaign on social media against the visit of the Syrian poet Adonis to Turkey, where he was honored at the “Homer International Festival of Literary Arts” in the Turkish city of “Izmir”

It is noteworthy that the campaign was attended by all parties in Syria, from the mass of supporters of the state to the mass of the opposition abroad, passing through the centrists or those not aligned with one party.
The supporters expressed their denunciation of the visit of the international Syrian poet to Turkey, which occupies the lands of Syria and which participated in the war on their country.
No increase in his literary richness
Many said that the award that Adonis received in Turkey would not add to his literary value.
Journalist Kamal Shaheen wrote on his account: “You have reached a very old age, and we think you are wise and able to make a wise decision. The award will not add anything to your wealth or value, so why did you forget the songs of Mahyar Al-Dimashqi?”

The writer Imad Najjar published a set of questions: What is Mr. Adonis doing in Erdogan’s Turkey? And what is he doing in Izmir, specifically with the governor of Izmir.. Does he not have news that Turkey is occupying his country?!
Is it possible that he has no idea that Erdogan’s Turkey is the one who brought in hundreds of thousands of ISIS and al-Qaeda jihadists who killed our people?!
Islamic Caliphate

The opposition pages personally attacked Adonis, as Orient TV described him as a “thief” because he did not stand with the “Syrian revolution”, while opponents demanded his expulsion from Turkey.
The municipality of the Turkish state of Izmir chose the Syrian poet and thinker “Ali Ahmed Saeed Esber” (Adonis) to give him the “Homer Prize” during the activities of the first session of the “Homer International Festival of Literary Arts”, which started on Friday evening in Izmir.
Adonis and three Turkish writers
The name Adonis comes along with three names of Turkish writers and writers who will be awarded the prize, they are: writer and poet Ozdemir Unce, writer and poet Yasar Aksoy, in addition to Turkish journalist Merdan Yanardag. This is according to what was stated in the festival programme.
Adonis attacks the West
In his speech, Adonis launched a fierce attack on European countries and the United States of America, accusing them of engaging in destructive “religious” wars in various regions of the world.
In his speech, Adonis stated that culture today, especially in the Islamic world, is “almost divided into two parts: the space of religion and the space of poetry.”
And he added, “We do not see in the space of American and European religion anything but violence and wars, various destruction and extermination at all levels, and the glorification and celebration of various forms of media.”
People of poetry and people of religion
Adonis considered that the common language between the people of poetry and the people of religion is “a despicable language that has become a tool for silence, forgery and erasure, and has turned into a quagmire for ready-made answers, where the truth becomes a lie and the person is an illusion.”
The Syrian poet pointed out that the world in which we live today is a world of religious “mystical” war, as he put it.
Adonis concluded his speech by thanking the sponsor of the “award”, the attendees, and Izmir, which he described as the “poetry city”.
