Syrian President Bashar al-Assad sent a congratulatory message to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed on his assumption of the presidency in United Arab Emirates.
According to the page of the Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic on Facebook, Al-Assad said in his telegram: “I congratulate you for gaining the confidence of the Supreme Council of the Union and for your unanimous election as President of United Arab Emirates. I hope that success will always be with you to complete the path of renaissance that was established by the late great Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.”
“Over the past years, you have played a leading role in bringing United Arab Emirates to a leading position in the region and the world in the fields of economic and scientific development, and you have been able to harness this position to build bridges and build strong strategic relations with the countries of the world in order to achieve the interests of Emirates and the Arab region,” president al-Assad said.
The Syrian president affirmed his country’s aspiration to continue working with the new president. In his congratulatory message, “We look forward to strengthen relations between Syria and UAE and strengthening partnerships in all fields, based on the ties and common interests that unite the two brotherly peoples,” he said.
The UAE Federal Council had chosen Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as head of state, to succeed his late brother Khalifa bin Zayed, who died on Friday, May 13.
