Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad said that the Syrian elections are “thousands of times better” than the American elections, which he described as a farce.
Al-Miqdad described the voting operations in the embassies of Syria as “very wonderful” and took place in “an atmosphere of freedom and democracy” in which the Syrians expressed “their opinion with all accuracy and freedom.”
In a statement to reporters after the results of the vote were handed over to the Ministry of Justice, Al-Miqdad added that “the elections inside Syria will be rich with the participation of the masses and express the views of the Syrians, in contradiction to all the propaganda made by the malicious media, politicians and criminals in some cases to distort these elections.”
“I assure you that the elections of the Syrian Arab Republic, at least what have taken place so far, were thousands of times better than the mock American elections that you have seen,” he said.
Al-Miqdad added, “The Syrians will prove once again that they are committed to their country, to reconstruction, to fighting terrorism, and that they are alongside their homeland and their army to continue until the final victory is achieved.”
Al-Miqdad referred in particular to what happened in Lebanon, and said that tens of thousands of people came from all regions of Lebanon to the embassy.
Al-Miqdad condemned “the mean behavior that attack Syrians” and prevented them from going to the embassy.
“Syria welcomes all its children, whom these aggressors prevented from exercising their right in Lebanon, to go to their country, Syria, to practice this right”, Al-Miqdad said.
Al-Miqdad confirmed, during his delivery of the results of the vote count for the presidential election voters residing outside the country, to the Supreme Judicial Committee, that the presidential elections for residents abroad took place through 46 electoral boxes in the Syrian embassies.
