The course of the Constitutional Committee stems from the “spirit” of Astana’s outputs: conflicting dates and differing agendas hashtag_special

The optimism expressed by the Russian President’s special envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, that the next round of the Constitutional Committee’s meetings will be held this summer, raises expectations to put pressure on the obstructing parties to start it and engage more in this path, which has faltered at least in its past five rounds, which have not been completed Any real results in starting to write and put constitutional formulations within a new constitution for the country.
In this context, a member of the delegation from civil society, Mays Kreidi, says that any work on a new tour must be linked to the outcomes of the recent Astana Conference, and the most important of what was stated in it by the government delegation, and therefore it is necessary to emphasize once again the Syrian sovereignty and the rejection of the Turkish and American occupation.
In exclusive statements to “Hashtag”, Kredi said that it is necessary to build on the final statement and the items that have been confirmed, and according to her, “things remain dependent on the assessment of the Syrian state about the feasibility of holding a new round of meetings of the Constitutional Committee, and the proposals that Geir Pedersen presents during this framework through His tour with all parties.”
According to Credi, “in the end, it is not possible to start a new round except in the spirit of the changes and the Syrian reality, because there is a realistic change, and it is the clear and announced decision of the Syrian people that they decided upon during the elections, and it must be the basis, and this is due to the state’s appreciation and feasibility.”
Disappointment!
Media reports are reporting that the meeting of the head of the government delegation to the 16th round of the Astana talks, which was held last Wednesday and Thursday, Ayman Susan, with the UN envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen, who participated in the round’s work, was not fruitful in terms of reaching an exact date for the upcoming (sixth) round of the talks. The work of the Constitutional Committee, whose last rounds ended in failure last January, made the UN envoy express his disappointment at its end and beyond.
Not agreed upon dates!
In conjunction with Lavrentiev’s statements last Wednesday about the possibility of holding a new round of the work of the Constitutional Committee in the summer of 2021, the Russian “Novosti” agency was quoting a source close to the Astana negotiations, that the sixth round of the work of the Constitutional Committee will take place before the end of next August in Geneva, but the source did not talk about whether Pedersen had reached an agreement with the parties of the committee on this date, and thus agreed upon the agendas.
As for Susan, who spoke about holding a new round of “constitutionality” during an interview on “Russia Today” channel, he confirmed that the government delegation will deal with the political and non-political outcomes of the Syrian crisis based on the results of the presidential elections.
