The Russian presidential envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, said that Russia will continue to supply the corona virus vaccine to Syria.
“I can assure you that these shipments will continue because we have to provide assistance to the brotherly Syrian people to help them fight the virus,” Lavrentiev told the Russian news agency TASS.
The envoy pointed out that the issue of vaccine delivery was not discussed during talks with President Bashar al-Assad, during Lavrentiev’s visit on July 1, as he clarified that “these are routine matters that are being discussed by the relevant ministries, and an agreement was reached regarding vaccine supplies in terms of principle, and a number of routine issues remain to be resolved.”
According to the diplomat, some vaccines will be provided for free and others against payment.
The first batch of the Russian vaccine (Sputnik V) against the Corona virus arrived on the 3rd of last June, according to what was announced by the Syrian ambassador to Moscow, Riad Haddad.
Haddad did not specify the size of the shipment, but said that vaccination began for the general public after doctors and workers caring for Corona patients received the first doses of it.
For his part, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that other shipments are likely to follow, and said, “If there is a demand, more shipments will be sent, and we are helping all our friends.”
The government approved the “Sputnik-V” vaccine on February 22, and the Ministry of Health is reticent about the numbers of cadres or people who received the vaccine, and the ministry’s website does not display any statistics, except for the numbers of injuries and deaths.
The Minister of Health, Hassan Ghobash, only said that the vaccine was given to a “large part” of the citizens registered through the ministry’s electronic platform, during a ministerial meeting with the team concerned with measures to address Corona on J Corona vaccinesune 26.
