The Director of School Health at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Hatoon Al-Tawashi, said that during the past week of school work, a decrease in the number of coronavirus infections was observed among teachers and students compared to previous weeks.
In exclusive statements to “Hashtag”, Al-Tawashi confirmed that 165 cases of positive smears for the virus were confirmed out of 628 swabs that were conducted in all governorates.
The total number of injuries since the beginning of the school year until last week reached 2357; Of which 375 are among the students and 1982 are among the teaching and administrative staff.
For the past week, Daraa and Homs governorates recorded the highest rates of injuries among the governorates, as Homs recorded 48 cases of injuries among teachers and students, as for the rest of the governorates, injuries were few, especially in Lattakia governorate, which has been at the top of the number of injuries for a long time since the start of the school year.
According to the Director of School Health, the awareness campaigns launched by the Ministry of Education had an impact in reducing infections in some governorates, which alerted to the need to take precautionary measures in the face of the Corona virus, however, the rates of turnout for taking the anti-virus vaccine by the administrative and teaching staff In the ministry is still below what is required.
After launching the mobile teams to administer the vaccine, Al-Tawashi hopes that the number of vaccinated against the virus will increase.
With the spread of RSV and cases of bronchiolitis, especially in schools, the Director of School Health at the Ministry of Education said that for school-aged children, it shows symptoms quite similar to regular influenza, and is currently common in the fall and winter season.
She stressed that it is very rare for children of school age to show severe symptoms, and it affects children under three years of age, and may require hospitalization.
Al-Tawashi stressed that “there is no need to worry about this disease for school-age children, or even for teachers and teachers.”
