The Criminal Security Branch in Latakia arrested a group of people on charges of dealing with suspicious pages and websites run from abroad.
The Ministry of Interior stated on its page that the “arrested” people provide these websites with false information about government institutions with the aim of insulting, defaming, undermining the prestige of the state and ruining the reputation of important figures.
The ministry indicated that by interrogating the rest of those arrested, they confessed to contacting several suspicious websites (Lawrence Shalish, Tishreen Makhlouf, Tariq Bledi, Zainab Abbas…), and providing them with information about government institutions and departments, and the abuse of employees working in these institutions.
It is noteworthy that the law regulating communication on the network and combating information crime raised a lot of controversy, and that the law is still being discussed by the specialized committee in the People’s Assembly.
