Some spots of pollution with fuel leaking from one of the tanks of the Banias thermal station in Tartous governorate have reached four sites on the shore of Jableh city in Lattakia, according to what the Director of Environment in Lattakia Governorate Dr. Lama Ahmad said, pointing to work to treat and remove pollution with joint efforts between all concerned departments.
Ahmed confirmed the follow-up of the Directorate, in cooperation with the Ports Directorate, to monitor any spot that may reach the beaches in the governorate, noting that the locations of the “small” spots of fuel are in the areas of “Al-Fakhoura – Arab Al-Malik – Al-Izza Port – Al-Buhais”, on the Jableh beach.
She added that the treatment of polluted spots is done manually, given that the sites are adjacent to the rocks, pointing to the support of engineering mechanisms in the accessible sites, including the mechanism for suctioning dirt, especially since there is no point in the effectiveness of floating materials. The director of the environment indicated that the current pollution in several locations on the Jableh Beach is less than the pollution that occurred about two years ago, when the oil terminal in Banias was targeted.
