The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that 22-year-old Syrian pilot Maya Ghazal had obtained British citizenship, nearly seven years after she arrived in the United Kingdom as a refugee and her family.
Maya Ghazal, despite the many obstacles and difficulties during her asylum, became a British citizen with legal documents.
The UNHCR said on its account on the “Instagram” website: “Maya Ghazal is the first Syrian refugee to become a pilot. She is the Goodwill Ambassador of the UNHCR, and now she has become a British citizen. congratulation. We are happy with you. You inspire us.”
“I am now a British citizen, my dreams and ambitions have come true here and I will always be grateful for that, but I will never give up my Syrian citizenship, because I am proud of who I am and my origins,” Ghazal said on the “digi24” website.
Maya Ghazal is from Damascus, and she is studying aeronautical engineering at a British university. She left Syria in 2015 to Britain with the rest of her family.
