The Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Dr. Amr Salem, denied, in exclusive statements to “Hashtag”, the existence of any study whose ultimate goal is to replace the subsidy provided to some commodities, especially bread and food supplies, with a cash allowance.
And press information had talked about an expected government decision to replace the subsidy with a cash amount to be allocated to each family that meets the eligibility criteria that will be determined later.
One of the ideas put forward, “according to the trader,” is to enable each family eligible for support to purchase goods from the Syrian Trade Corporation, with a value equal to the value of the cash allowance allocated to it, and through the electronic card.
However, Minister Salem confirmed that “the subsidy will not be lifted, and this is certain,” noting that the ministry is currently studying determining the real beneficiaries or not, so that support for those who are not eligible, such as the merchant, for example, does not affect the beneficiaries.
Minister Salem said that work is being done to determine the eligible categories based on certain bases, and to improve the performance of the institutions concerned with providing subsidized materials to the citizen.
The Minister of Internal Trade indicated that it was observed that specific categories of the card were deprived, through performance measurement, and executive instructions are currently being discussed to put the bachelor through an “individual card” belonging to unmarried citizens but residing in their own homes, in addition to the delivery of support for people with disabilities or permanent diseases. without incurring any trouble.
The minister reiterated once again that replacing the subsidy requires major studies, and is currently not on the table, adding: “Any idea to lift the subsidy for any material or reduce the subsidy is not on the table, as the subsidy is fixed and can be increased and not decreased”.
