An official source in the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade revealed to “Hashtag” that the continuation of economic sanctions on Syria limits the development of cooperation between Syria and the UAE.
The source stressed that the commercial cooperation between the two countries did not stop during the war and the siege, and this is evident from the presence of the UAE in the 21st rank in terms of the most important countries from which Syria imports before the crisis, i.e. in 2010, while in 2021 it ranked tenth, As for the countries to which Syria exports, the UAE ranked 19th in 2010, while it advanced in 2021 to become 7th.
The source said that President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to the United Arab Emirates will reflect remarkably positively on the level of economic cooperation between the two countries, especially after the talks, meetings and phone contacts that took place between the two sides in recent months, especially on the economic level.
The source pointed out that the timing of the visit to develop relations in a deeper way has nothing to do with the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, but rather was coordinated in advance.
As for the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, it was natural for the economic repercussions to emerge on different countries of the world, and their impact varies according to the situation of each country and its political and economic relations in the first place.
The source pointed out that the prospects for developing cooperation between the two countries are based on the focus on benefiting from the new investment law No. 18 of 2021, which includes many incentive advantages, which would attract Arab and foreign capitalization and contribute to its involvement in important investment projects, in addition to the development of commercial cooperation and Activating its movement, which leads to enhancing the entry of Syrian products into the UAE markets, and working to secure the citizens’ needs as much as possible from the requirements of the production process in Syria of Emirati materials and products.
The source said that among the most important materials that Syria imports from the UAE are: plastic granules, aluminum billets, iron sheets, paper, cardboard, raw materials for industry, mineral oils and greases, while many products are exported to the UAE, the most important of which are clothing, shoes, building stones, food manufactures, vegetables, fruits and dry crops. cumin, coriander and fennel.
