After UNESCO announced yesterday the inclusion of Qudud Halabiya on the Representative List of the Intangible Human Heritage for the year 2021, on Thursday, the Ministry of Culture and the Syrian Trust for Development held a press conference at the Opera House in Damascus.
In the presence of a large number of local, Arab and foreign media, the Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mushouh, said at the beginning of her speech: “We made great efforts to include the Aleppo Qudoud on the list of human heritage. It relied on a lot of research and studies, in which the Ministry cooperated with several parties, the most prominent of which was
The most prominent of them was the Syrian Trust for Development, in addition to a number of researchers in the fields of music and heritage. The most important goal of these efforts was to assure the whole world that we are the builders of an ancient civilization, which is not worthy of being ignored.
And that the war and destruction that Syria has endured in its last ten years will not deter it from playing its role and highlighting its cultural and civilizational potential.”
In response to a question for “hashtag” about the ministry’s plan regarding the city of Aleppo, as it is an incubator for Qudud and
, Minister Mushouh said: “It is certain that Aleppo has had a great impact on writing, composing and publishing al-Qudud al-Halabi. However, the impact of this recognition and the government’s subsequent results and plans will be reflected in all Syrian cities, because Aleppo’s Qudud is no longer the property of Aleppo only, the Alepines succeeded long ago in making it a part of the Syrian identity as a whole.
For his part, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Syrian Trust for Development, “Fares Kallas”, said that one of the forms of war we are experiencing is the cultural war, the war of abolition directed towards everything, which targets our identity in the first place, and this is precisely what prompted us to take steps that would protect that identity and document the intangible heritage, in addition to documenting all the violations that affected our archaeological sites, all with the aim of preserving our international presence and our international image.”
Klass stressed that the task of preserving, documenting and preserving our past from loss is not limited to the Ministry of Culture and the Syrian Trust for Development, but that every Syrian is concerned with this by the extent of his ability and knowledge, and he can provide us with any documentation he makes of a local art, a heritage profession or even A story that is about to be forgotten, and we, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, will carry that trust to pass it on to the new generations.”
On Wednesday evening, December 15, 2021, UNESCO announced its inclusion of Al-Qudud Aleppines on the list of human heritage, during a meeting hosted by France for the sixteenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.
