The talks, which took place in the capital, Damascus, and conducted by the Syrian Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh, included talks with the Chargé d’Affairs of the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Korea, the political and economic advisor at the embassy, Kim Hae Ryong, and a mechanism for strengthening economic and industrial relations and cooperation between the two countries, according to the Syrian news agency “SANA”.

During the meeting, Sabbagh pointed out the importance of working to strengthen joint cooperation between Syria and the DPRK, to reach broader relations in the industrial field between the two countries.
Sabbagh indicated that this is done so that these relations parallel their political counterpart, in a way that achieves the common benefit of the two friendly countries and peoples, as he put it.
The Syrian minister pointed out the need to activate the memoranda of understanding and industrial agreements concluded between the ministry and the Korean side, which were suspended due to the Corona pandemic.
Korean attitude
In turn, Kim Hae expressed his country’s unanimity in the face of the sanctions imposed on both countries, and the need to confront them with their own resources to advance in the face of the economic blockade.
Kim Hai indicated his country’s interest in the projects proposed by the Syrian Ministry of Industry for investment, especially in the field of pharmaceutical industries, alternative energies and the aluminum industry.
joint technical committee
During the meeting, it was agreed to form a joint technical committee to set the initial principles for the fields of joint industrial cooperation, follow-up and activate the memoranda of understanding signed between the two sides.
