Damascus denied the validity of the information circulated about contacts with Turkey. According to a brief statement published by the agency “SANA”.
The agency said:
“Syria confirms that there is no contacts with the Turkish regime, as some of its officials claim, and that there can be no cooperation in the field of combating terrorism with a terrorist regime that supports, trains and spreads terrorism in the region and the world.”
Turkish media reported in recent days that talks took place between the head of the Syrian National Security Bureau, Major General Ali Mamlouk, and the head of Turkish intelligence, Hakan Fidan.
Yesterday, Turkish Interior Minister Suleman Soylu hinted that his country could hold talks with Syria “without recognizing the legitimacy of President Bashar al-Assad,” as he put it.
