The Syrian ambassador to Lebanon, Ali Abdul Karim Ali, described Saudi Arabia as a “brother and dear country,” and said that Syria welcomes any step in the interest of Arab-Arab relations.
Ali’s statement came in response to a question about opening a new page in the history of relations between Syria and Saudi Arabia, after his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Lebanese caretaker government, Charbel Wahba.
Ali said that he appreciates that “the brothers are in a review, we hope it will not be long, and I see this through meeting with a number of diplomats and through follow-ups and statements.”
Ali referred to what is being circulated in the media about Saudi Arabia reconsidering its positions in a number of files, adding that “Syria welcomes any initiative that includes a responsible review because it is careful about brothers, and Saudi Arabia is a dear country, and any step in the interest of Arab-Arab relations, Syria welcomes it.” The Lebanese National News Agency quoted Ali as saying, “Many people reconsider their stance on Syria, and this confirms the correctness of their stance.” Syria welcomes all initiatives that want to reach more safety for their countries, and of course it has an interest in correcting any country that had positions in the wrong direction when it reconsidered them.” Ali added that Syria “is welcoming and happy about this, as it expresses its strength, the triumph of its vision and the correctness of its position.”
