The head of the Confectionery and Ice Cream Association in Damascus, Muhammad Al-Imam, confirmed that sales have decreased dramatically due to the high prices.
Al-Imam spoke to “hashtag” about the suffering of Confectionery makers due to the great shortage of fuel, accusing the Damascus Fuel Directorate of causing chaos through the spread of nepotism and bribery in it, and accusing its manager of personally responsible for this, and its employees of chaos, stressing that “the majority of engineers owned during This crisis is worth about 500 million Syrian pounds, and the evidence was presented to the economic branch,” he said.
Al-Imam revealed examples of the abuses taking place, saying, “There is an industrialist who registered for diesel on September 12, 2021 and has not yet received his allocations of 1,000 liters of diesel, while another industrialist registered on October 10 and obtained diesel in exchange for paying a gold lira.”
The head of the Confectionery Al-Imam added that “there is a facility that has its licenses and records and is up to date, yet it does not take its allocations from industrial diesel, so it is forced to buy it from the open market, and we told the “sleeping” craftsmen union and we have now turned to the Central Authority for Control and Inspection.
On the other hand, Al-Imam criticized the Ministry of Finance and the Directorate of Insurance that do not grant the owner of the facility a clearance if the shop is heirs and one of the heirs is traveling or dead, or when the owner of the establishment has two shops, and one of the shops has a problem, so the owner of the establishment is not given clearance to the shop Second, and this is a problem that many industrialists suffer from, he said.
Despite the decision to raise the price of industrial diesel to 1,700 pounds, diesel was not available, according to Al-Imam, and “the owner of the facility needs an amount of 2 million pounds every week in order to secure diesel, and the Fuel Directorate has not implemented any request for 3 months.”
Regarding vegetable oils, Muhammad al-Imam said that sweets producers suffered a lot in the previous stage to secure them, but today they are available, but after their price approached the price of olive oil.
