A few days after the start of the process of distributing bread “every two days 16 loaves in one nylon bag” until the ministry reversed its decision and announced another!
It seems that the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection did not get tired of experimenting, as once it announced a new mechanism for distributing bread, it decided a few days later to stop it due to its ineffectiveness.
The Director of Resources at the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Nahid Al-Hajji, said in an exclusive statement to “Hashtag”, that a new mechanism for distributing bread will be announced, and its beginning will be in the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, and the aim of it is “the presence of bread anywhere and anytime… without wasting.”
The ministry’s decision stated that, starting from the first of next February, a new system will be adopted to distribute bread in the governorates of Damascus and its countryside. Each province and that the allocations of any authorized person should not be more than 250 bundles under any circumstance, because any point of sale cannot sell more than this number without a large crowd.
The decision added that the distribution of the number of accredited people will be based on maps and the number of residents in each of the neighborhoods, and each group of them is linked to a bakery according to its production capacity.
As for the bread sold at cost to those who want it or those who are excluded from the subsidy, it is transported in cars with the specifications mentioned above, and it is sold to those who want groceries, and in any number and distributed in a small number of bundles, not exceeding 20 bundles for each grocery.
Al-Hajji continued by saying that the ministry is continuing to study the changes taking place, to ensure the success of its plans in distributing bread, stressing that the next change in the bread distribution mechanism will be through increasing allocations; “Things are fine, wheat and flour have been well secured, and milling capacity has increased significantly, which the citizen will notice soon.”
Unstable mechanism!
The Ministry of Internal Trade announced at the end of last year that it would adopt a new mechanism for distributing bread ration allocations on the smart card, to start work within a new mechanism for distributing bread allocations on the electronic card according to the target segments with the new year.
The ministry said at the time that according to the current mechanism, bakeries are overcrowded every Thursday, while the new mechanism will work to ensure that there is no crowding in front of the bakeries.
The ministry indicated that people who get one bundle cause a congestion in their daily turn to the bakeries, and in the new mechanism, bread will be distributed to them every two days (two bundles with one nylon bag).
The government had issued a previous mechanism in order to determine the number of bundles of bread and specific days for obtaining them according to the number of family members. This is so that citizens do not suffer from standing in long queues in front of the bakeries to get a loaf of bread.
The mechanism determines the number of bundles of bread that can be sold to each family according to the number of individuals throughout the week, except for Friday. The reason is because Friday is the weekly bakery holiday.
One person can buy four bundles of bread per week, except for Sunday and Tuesday, while a family of two has the right to buy 6 bundles of bread per week at the rate of one bundle each day.
A family consisting of three people has 7 bundles per week at the rate of one bundle every day, except on Thursday, only two bundles.
A family of four may purchase 10 bundles of bread per week, i.e. two bundles of bread every day, except for Sunday and Tuesday, one bundle. The family is 5 people, 12 bundles per week at a rate of two bundles per day. The family is 6 people, 14 bundles per week, at a rate of two bundles per day, except on Thursday, 4 bundles.
A family with members between 7 and 8 has the right to buy 18 bundles of bread at a rate of 3 bundles per day, and a family of 9, 10 and 11 members has 24 bundles per week at a rate of four bundles per day, and the 12-13 family has 30 bundles per week at a rate of five bundles per day, and the family of 14 people buys 36 bundles per week, 6 bundles per day.
