The prices of fans and air conditioners continued to rise in light of the high temperatures during the summer.
Buying a small fan has become a small dream compared to the citizen’s income. During a tour of a Damascus market, “hashtag” monitored the prices of fans, starting from 130 to 150 thousand Syrian pounds, and grading upwards to half a million pounds, depending on the size and quality.
Hand-made types of fans spread in markets, which are a small motor and plastic fan blades without metal protection, installed on a wooden or plastic base, and their prices start from 25,000 Syrian pounds.
The market for second hand fans, whether online or within fans maintenance shops recovered, the second hand prices start from 35,000 Syrian pounds and reach 150 thousand pounds, depending on type, quality and size.
Air conditioner is a dream
Buying an air conditioner has become like a dream, as the price of a 1 ton air conditioner starts from a million Syrian pounds, and half a million pounds are added to it, 1.5 million pounds for each 1 ton air conditioner of famous brands.
The price of an air conditioner for 2 tons of ordinary, non-famous Chinese brands reaches 1.6 million Syrian pounds, and 2.3 million Syrian pounds for famous brands, and the cost of installing the air conditioner ranges between 60 to 100 thousand Syrian pounds.
The owner of a fan shop in the electricity market confirmed that “the rise in fan prices this year is primarily due to the difficulty of importing, and the failure to grant import approvals for fans on the pretext of controlling waste of foreign exchange due to the presence of a local industry and companies licensed from China. This led to a decrease in supply and an increase in prices.”
