The Supreme Constitutional Court is still continuing to sort out the written support of members of the People’s Assembly for their candidates and to study candidacy applications for the post of President of the Republic for a decision. The court received from the People’s Assembly the Written Support box to sort them and decide the candidacy applications within five days. The President of the Court, Muhammad Jihad al-Lahham confirmed that the court, after receiving the written confirmations, will study all applications for candidacy and decide on them within the legal period of five days and after completing their studies in accordance with the constitutional and legal conditions, the court will announce Names of those whose candidacy applications have been accepted.
Those whose candidacy applications have not been accepted are entitled to file an objection within three days of the day following the announcement of the names of those who were accepted, as stated in “Al-Watan” and the court examines these applications within another three days to decide. The court examines candidacy applications for each application separately to decide and accept those who fulfill the conditions for candidacy and reject those who do not meet these conditions. The 10-day period for submitting candidacy applications announced by the Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammouda Sabbagh ended last Wednesday, as the number of those who applied for candidacy reached 51, including 7 women.
Ghada Ibrahim confirmed in the Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee in the People’s Assembly that the names of those whose candidacy applications have been accepted are published in two daily newspapers after announcing the final results, noting that it is not required that the Constitutional Court announce the names of those admitted at the end of the fifth day specified for studying the applications, because they can be announced during This period, upon completion of her studies.
Ibrahim indicated that the role of the People’s Assembly ended at the time of handing over the written approvals of the members of the Council to their candidates to the court, explaining that it is concerned with sorting the approvals, studying and deciding on applications for candidacy and announcing the names of those who are accepted, and adding that the role of the Parliament is to receive notifications of candidacy applications sent by the Constitutional Court and written requests from applicants who apply for their candidacy to obtain The support of 35 members of the People’s Assembly as a condition of running for the office of President of the Republic.
