The United Nations stresses the need to adhere to the cross-border crossing mechanism to deliver aid to Syria

United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric stressed that cross-border aid channels remain essential for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria.
The mechanism is decisive!
Dujarric said in press statements that the United Nations believes that the current cross-border mechanism is still crucial in delivering humanitarian aid to Syrians, according to Reuters.
Dujarric noted that the cross-border access point remains critical to being able to deliver humanitarian aid to those Syrian men and women who need it in those areas.
Access Points
Dujarric reiterated the well-established position of the United Nations, that the more access points, the easier it will be to deliver aid to the Syrians.
“Obviously the more crossing points the better, we’ve always been very clear about that, and we will of course continue operations across the lines, which is also very important,” the UN official said.
Russian criticism
The Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, confirmed earlier that Western countries are not fulfilling their obligations under the Cross-Border Assistance Mechanism in Syria, noting that this situation does not suit Russia.
Nebenzia indicated that this issue will undoubtedly be discussed, saying: “We have repeatedly said that we are not satisfied with the pace of the process of delivering assistance through the communication lines.”
The Russian official stressed that the West had not fulfilled its written commitments in Resolution 2585, regarding establishing a mechanism and providing Syria with funds for early recovery programs, of which only 3% were allocated.
The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to vote next July to renew the mandate of the United Nations for the cross-border mechanism, which allows aid to reach Syria through the Bab al-Hawa crossing.
Resolution 2585 extending the use of the Bab al-Hawa crossing was passed in July 2021, as a result of a settlement between Russian and American negotiators.
The mandate expires on July 10, with concerns that the current geopolitical situation could overshadow new efforts to reach an agreement.
The document stipulates extending the work of the lessons for an additional 12 months, provided that, after six months, the Secretary-General of the United Nations presents a report on the work of the aid transfer mechanism.
