Who is the new governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Mohammad Issam Hazimeh?

President Bashar al-Assad appointed a new central bank chief on Tuesday, a week after the former governor was sacked.
“President Assad issues decree Number 126 for the year 2021 which appoints Mohammad Issam Hazimeh as the new governor of Syria’s central bank,” the presidency said in a statement.
Hazimeh has served as deputy central bank governor since 2018,
he earlier held posts at the justice ministry, the Damascus Securities Exchange and the state-owned company responsible for online payments.
Issam Hazimeh’s experience came as he headed a committee of experts. This committee developed a set of procedures for controlling the exchange rate, and over the past weeks it managed to reduce the exchange rate and is still heading for more technical and financial measures so far, as the exchange rate is about 2,500 pounds.
He holds, PhD in international law, specializing in electronic commerce law, and a master’s degree in economic law from the University of Marseille and a diploma in international law from the University of Damascus.
